I'm curdenrly at 34 with an Orc DragonKnight. I know I have a long way to go until I have to truly concern myself with deep build advice, but this is my first ESO character and I'm trying to figure out the mechanics not only of the class but ESO itself.
I'm running a majority Ardent Flame with Draconic Power next and Earthern Heart a distant 3rd, as I supplement my classes with Two Handed Weapons so I haven't done much tanking.
What I am noticing is that the build I am seeing develop seems to revolve around setting up DoTs and then applying damage from another source like a weapon.
Is this the "proper" way to play ESO? There's so many options open in this game that I feel somewhat overwhelmed coming from WoW. Builds in WoW, especially after Cataclysm, were never about narrowing down options, only avoiding inefficiencies in the tree; here, I'm seeking out trees to add. I love it, but I do feel a little frazzled by the sheer amount of options available.
I'm using 2H to provide brute damage to supplement the dots. I'm using two skills from the Tree: Uppercut Morphed to Wrecking Blow and Reverse Slash Morphed to Execute.
My normal rotation before I hit combat:
Then, I weapon-swap to my main weapon and:
Exhale Morphed to engulfing flame
Buring slash, the morph that heals for a percentage of the damage
Heavy Attack (repeat as needed)
My reserved emergency buttons are for Dragon blood for healing, Reflective Scales and Firey Grip.
My Ultimate is Standard of Might, so my playstyle revolves around keeping people in my face, to let inferno work and keep people in range of my 2H and Firey stuff and dragging runners back in with Firey Grip.
Is this a good rotation? Build advice says focus only on Magicka or Stamina, not both, but this seems to be the best use of my abilities at this time.
Anyone have any advice? Am I missing anything from a larger mechanical perspective?
First question is are you looking for this build to be PvE or PvP? 2 handed is good for PvP but dual wield for PvE is better if you are playing as a dps class.
It is better to go either full stam or full mag as food can help with making up for stats.
I'm running an orc dk as well but stamina based
I'm mostly interested in PvE, but I'd like to be an effective teammate for PvP. I don't expect a hybrid build to rock socks, but in PvP I'm only really looking to support.
Is that possible?
I've heard DW is superior for PvE, but it just feels wrong. Not mechanically, just thematically. I'm willing to take the bump to keep the 2H playstyle.
For 2 handed i think there is a spammable aoe attack (can't remember the name) what weapon are you running on your back bar?
Obsidian shield is another good defense skill as it gives you a shield with increased healing for half the duration.
Also try to wear all medium if you're going dps to help with stamina and recovery
I'm running a sword/dagger to level up DW.
I have obsidian shield on my bad sometimes. Right now I'm running reflect scales to level up and I usually have enough healing to power through most mobs. I switch it up for boss fights.
Cleave is the AOE in the 2H tree. I could swap that out for something like Firey Grip, which is more of a pulling/tanking skill anyway.
