The officers of the guild have been hard at work behind the scenes coming up with a new guild event schedule. We are striving to create more meaningful content within the guild events that anyone and everyone is welcome to join in. These are all CASUAL events! Each officer in the guild will be hosting their own event, once every 2 weeks.
The schedule will be set in 2 week blocks. Social PvP and Trial runs will have a set rotating schedule. Check #og-eso-trials for social Trial signups. Sundays are reserved for the Trials team (Order of Obsidian). Check #og-guild-events for a daily post for the day’s event.
There is a forum on the website, ‘Recent Guild Events’ where officers will post a quick recap of each event and who attended. The message of the day, in game, will also have the day’s event posted daily. Below is the link to the calendar of events. It is set for the next 2 weeks. In the future, the calendar will automatically update as events are sign uped for, so check back often. All times are EST. http://tinyurl.com/OGEventsCalendar
The word 'watermelon' is our clear comms code word. If someone says 'watermelon' please stop talking, and allow the person to ask their question or say what they need to say. Likewise! If you have an important question or announcement, simply shout 'watermelon!' and comms should quiet down.[Edit Text]
Thoughts on Constructive Criticism
Almost everyone who plays or has played a sport has received constructive criticism. A batter who was struggling to make solid contact is told by the coach to keep her elbow high. By hearing that suggestion and trying to carry it out the hitter’s swing is leveled out. This allows her to hit the ball more squarely and transfer more energy to the ball while maintaining a flatter trajectory resulting in an extra base hit.
Especially in our adult lives. When we leave the field of play we lose a vital perspective on our interactions with others. People who offer us criticisms are generally trying to be on our team. They are trying to help. When we take away the coach’s hat constructive criticism is often misconstrued as an attack or an insult.
When someone gives you constructive criticism it’s generally our first instinct to become embarrassed or even defensive. It’s essential before you react, or overreact to understand that this is not an attack on you as a person or even as a player. Take a deep breath and have an open mind. Constructive criticism is not an insult; it’s an attempt to help you find a different (hopefully easier / more effective) path to your objectives.
Don’t take it personally. If someone approaches you with constructive criticism they are indicating that they believe you have the potential to hear what they are suggesting and that you are capable of putting their observations to work for your benefit. Try and remember that there is a difference between a reprimand and constructive criticism. Generally speaking a reprimand comes when the person speaking believes that you had an opportunity to know in advance what was expected of you and reprimands are typically accompanied by consequences.
If you can remove defensiveness from the situation, you have the opportunity to truly listen to what is being asked of you and why. Listen attentively don’t jump to conclusions and don’t start preparing any counterpoints, instead pay attention and learn from what is being offered. If you don’t understand exactly what is being asked or how to carry the advice forward ask specific questions. If possible show that you were listening by reiterating the concepts you did understand.
If you are dedicated to improving having an outsider’s perspective can be an invaluable tool. When someone takes an interest in helping you to grow as a player you can show them that you appreciate their help by first taking their advice and then following up to share how you implemented change and what impact that change has had. You might say, “I started animation cancelling my Bombard with a bar swap and now I have enough time to weave in a heavy attack while I still have my major brutality buff. I notice that I’m doing more damage and now my ultimate seems to be ready more frequently.” Since the person providing advice was trying to help you, your acknowledgement that their advice worked is just the reward for which they were looking. It’s also a good idea to say thank you.
Ultimately, receiving constructive criticism is not about acquiescing to someone else’s way of doing something. Instead it should be a way that two people can work together to find their new way of doing something.

Recent conversations by several members of the guild and some of the officers about a commonly held desire to attempt more serious content has led to the genesis of a new trials team called The Order of Obsidian.
The Order is a dedicated group of Obsidian Guard members committed to working together to complete the four trials: Atherian Archives; Sanctum Ophidia; Hel Ra Citadel, and Maw of Lorkhaj on veteran and hard-mode. The Order meets in the evening once or twice a week. Each week we will spend one night working on new content and another night (schedule permitting) farming content that we have already mastered.
Membership in the Order is by invitation only and members are required to participate in 75% of all Order events in addition to at least one social trial each month. The focus of the group is collaborative effort in a positive and friendly atmosphere. We are currently working through the normal mode of each dungeon in an attempt to learn mechanics, come together as a team, complete item sets, and optimize our skills and rotations. We will be attempting to complete the no death and speed run achievements of each dungeon before beginning to attack Veteran Modes.
The Order of Obsidian is still recruiting members and I’d encourage everyone who has more than 160 champion points to apply. Check here for a more in-depth look at the Order and ESO End-game Content. If you’d like to apply for consideration visit the Application forum. If still have questions feel free to reach any of the Order Officers in game.

A 3 Month Cap on activity is in effect. This means as long as you appear “ONLINE” in game once within a 3 month time span, your spot will be saved. Anyone that has not been in game 4 months or longer will be removed. To keep this guild fresh and active; it is important to rotate those less active out to bring new active members in. However; I know Real Life happens. For anyone who will be away from the game for more than 3 months and wish their spot saved, just message me and I will hold it for you. In case you are removed and wish to rejoin, no worries. Again just message and an invite will be sent. If you are a retired officer or have contacted me already; no worries, your spot has already been saved. Thank you for your cooperation and being a member of the OG. MISC GUILD NEWS
OFFICER ANNOUNCMENTS: Please welcome our newest Ambassador; XxCaDoRxX. I know he will do an excellent job at that position. Also welcome back to the EC from leave; Katfeine. We also have a couple of retirees; Dite Hart and Phatklown1. Both did an excellent job as Ambassadors and will be missed at that level.
UPDATES: As we get closer to the Morrowind release; updates to ESO will be paving the way for it. Always restart your console after the patch to ensure it completes the update.
LOTTERY: 50k is up for grabs! Deposit 503g into the guild bank as many times as you wish for a chance to win. Details will be posted on Discord and the website. Any question; msg | PUN1SHER |
HOMESTEAD: IT IS HERE! You can now buy homes across Tamriel. Make sure to check every type of container out there for the new decorating blueprints.
As for the rumor of possibly getting a Guild House; the talk is slowly moving towards reality. Thanks to a large donation by a guild member, the means to buy a guild house is available. A survey has been done for us to see what you the guild would like to see in the house. An announcement will be made when the plan goes through.
MORROWIND: It is happening! If you're living under a rock and didn't hear; ESO is returning us to Vvardenfell. For those of us who played TES Morrowind, this is pure nostalgia. For those who didn't get the chance, you are in for a real good time. (Hopefully, Lol!) The game designers have said the whole island is available to explore; with PvP zones, a new Trial, the new Warden class and available housing to purchase. It will be exciting to see what the island looked like in the 2nd Era; 700 years before the events of TES Morrowind. More info is soon to follow; available June 6th.
ESO: Most of us have read the latest notes on the upcoming updates. If you haven't, head to ESO Forums for the latest info. There is a lot of mixed reaction towards the game as ZOS tweaks the hell out of it. Many have compared it to what happened to WoW. I know this is a game many of us have poured our souls into and to see it adjusted so much is discouraging. Some may even leave because of this. But please remember this; we are all going through it together. No matter what ZOS does; we'll adjust and as a guild, have fun doing it.
GUILD TABARD: We do have a guild tabard. It is located in our guild store; which is accesssible from any city banker. It was recently updated by Ryu and is far superior than the original. Please buy one and represent the Obsidian Guard in Tamriel.
Language has been brought up to the EC recently. Please refer to the chat guidlines below. While this is a mature game with mature players; I understand the language used and use it myself. However, we need to remember that we are not alone in chat. While many won't mind the talk, others might. Please, be courteous to others.
GUILD CHAT GUIDELINE

As always, if there’s something or someone that’s bothering you, please let one of the ambassadors (or Elder Council) know before it escalates and thank you!<!--EndFragment-->[Edit Text]
